Schindler Autograph Up For Auction
The last remaining autographed photo of holocaust hero OSKAR SCHINDLER is to be sold at auction.
The German industrialist, made famous in Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning Schindler's List, was responsible for saving 1,400 Jews from death during World War II.
Schindler signed the photo in 1949 before giving it to a family he had taken in during the war. It currently belongs to Sholamit Vesengred, the son of two Holocaust survivors, who hopes to attract bids of up to $150,000 (GBP75,000) when the picture goes under the hammer later this year (08).
And he has revealed he plans to get in contact with actor Liam Neeson - who played Schindler in the 1993 film - in the hope he'll join bidders and bump up the price.

Doug Burr, On Promenade Album Review
Doug Burr
On Promenade
Velvet Blue
Album Review
Doug Burr is a singer-songwriter in the Springsteen style - songs come out fully formed and ready for some full band attention, but with an intimacy that engages deeply. From Denton, Texas, (home of Centro-matic) Burr's voice and style is closer to Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, but it is hard to overstate how lush and gorgeous this man's songs are - there isn't an attempt to overemote, no odd falsetto. Instead, like the early Lyle Lovett albums (think If I Had A Boat), these songs seem like classics, destined for endless covers by less talented writers.
Songs like How Can The Lark and Should've Known lick deliciously at dark places - Nick Cave with a gentle touch. Burr relies on great songs, not on gimmicks, and pulls on literate wit and poetry to generate the intimate ache that drives the record. There is clearly something in the water in Denton - that town has produced two of the best records of the past 12 months.

A split CD with the American Tragedy followed the future class. In 2003 the band gestural with Metal Blade and released Delicate Words Collapse. After the album's release, White left hand the band and the unexpended core of the grouping, Lambesis and Mancino, drafted deuce guitarist to put back him, Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa, and too landed a basso actor in Clint Norris. The fresh lineup recorded Shadows Are Security, released in 2005. The band then spent that summertime on the Sounds of the Underground metal-hardcore tour of duty aboard acts like In Flames, GWAR, Trivium, and Cannibal Corpse. Soon afterward, Clint Norris left hand to pursue life as a family man and Josh Gilbert replaced him on basso. With the addition of Gilbert's vocal harmonies, the band's good became more than melodic, and in August 2007, the mathematical group released their fourth record album, An Ocean Between Us.

Call Off The Search

Plucked from music school abstruseness by songwriter/producer Mike Batt, Katie Melua byword her debut bolt up the U.K. charts upon its press release there in late 2003. Melua was born in Soviet Georgia in 1984. Eventually, she and her family line stirred to Belfast, Ireland, and eventually to London, where Melua entered the B.R.I.T. School for the Performing Arts & Technology. The track record industry-funded school had a habit of graduating talented playacting artists (Floetry, for illustration), and Melua became its next success when a 2003 showcase caught the attention of Batt, who'd been looking for for a vocalizer capable in both malarky and blues styles. Call Off the Search was issued in the U.K. in November 2003 through Batt's Dramatico Records embossment. A comfortable, highly neat blend of malarky vocals, pop style, and adult modern-day shake, the record album featured deuce cuts penned by Melua (including a testimonial to matchless of her biggest influences, Eva Cassidy), as intimately as covers of material from John Mayall, Randy Newman, and the James Shelton definitive "Lilac Wine." The single "Nearest Thing to Crazy" hit number one in December, and by January of the following year, Call Off the Search had gone platinum (three hundred,000 units in the U.K.). Gigs in Europe followed, and in May 2004 Melua made her fashion to the U.S. for a round of nightspot dates load-bearing the album's domestic release. She achieved regular greater success with her 2005 follow-up, Spell by Piece, a wise blend of worldbeat and jazz-pop that topped both the outside and British charts in front mount its sights on the U.S. securities industry in 2006.
